At this time, Sefer Bamidbar($2,500), and a select number of Parshios ($1,000) and Special Parshios ($500), remain available. Membership Dues & Seats for Yom Tov and the Year

As we prepare to begin the new year we would like take this opportunity to wish all of our members and friends a Keteva VaChateema Tovah and a happy and healthy new year. We would also like to remind you, that this is the time of year that we collect membership dues and ask you to pay for your seats for the year and for the Yommim Noraim.

Annual Family Membership/Seats (includes 2 adult seats) is $500, additional adult seats are $150 each, and seats for children (living at home) over bar/bat mitzvah age are $25 each. For those of you who do not daven with us on a "regular" basis we also have a Chaver membership (at $100 and does not include any seats) so that you too can express you appreciation to the Rov & help us cover our expenses.

As our shul has B”H grown and many of our mispallelim have guests coming for Yom Tov, please let us know if you do not plan on using your seats.

You can make your reservations via the internet by sending me an e-mail at jfaska@yahoo.com and the seating committee will be available the first night of Slichos from 10:00 PM to Midnight in the shul.

Please note: payment arrangements MUST be made by Motzai Shabbos September 8th. After that date, we will make your seats available, as needed, to others.

Please do not wait for Slichos (12:30) to come and make your arrangements, because we too need to prepare for the Yom Hadin and ask for rachamim.

Thank You

The Committee

Tehillim group

We would like to start a Tehillim group. The concept is that we break down the whole Tehillim into 28 sections where each section contains on average 6 psalms. We firmly believe that there are a multitude of people that would like to join in this effort allowing us collectively to finish the Sefer Tehillim a few times on a daily basis. The initial goal is to have it said in the morning, afternoon and evening. With the onset of wireless devices these days you can gain access to Tehillim via www.idaven.com and we will be able if requested to send automated daily reminders. A dedicated email address at qtehillim@gmail.com has been set up for this project. If you can take part in this initiative please reply to the email address listed above as to how many sections you would like to say and at what times. The morning tehillim will need to be said by 10 where the afternoon tehillim will need to be said no later than 15 minutes before sunset and the evening by 10. We will then let you know what sections and times you have signed up for. This project is being undertaken in the zechus of a speedy refuah shleima for Mindel Adina bas Yenta Yita Yehudis.

Sincerely,

Mikey Biderman & Shmuel Kazarnovsky

Instant Coffee No Longer an Automatic for Passover

New York... There was a time when you could buy unflavored and caffeinated coffee for Passover without worrying about a special kosher designation for the holiday.

But according to Rabbi Shmuel Singer of the Orthodox Union, that is no longer true. "Our position in former years in regard to coffee had been similar to tea," wrote Rabbi Singer. "We maintained that all regular coffee, that is unflavored and not decaffeinated, is acceptable for Pesach without supervision. This is no longer true. Some coffee companies add maltodextrin, which is either chametz or kitniyos, to instant coffee. As a result this coffee is not kosher for Passover. Only coffee bearing an OU-P symbol or brands listed in the gray area of the Passover Directory should be used. Both Folger's and Taster's Choice instant coffee remain acceptable. Other brands should be checked in the (OU Passover) Directory. Ground coffee remains acceptable from any source as long as it is unflavored and not decaffeinated." As a result, people who may have regular instant coffee, that is unflavored and not decaffeinated, from last year that is another brand besides Folger's or Taster's Choice, should not use it for Pesach.

Shul Projects Update

Dear Members and Mispallelim:

Thank you for coming out in such great numbers to our 25th anniversary Melava Malka in honor our Rav and Rebbetzin and for helping to make the evening a great success and Kiddush Hashem.

We are writing to follow up and seek your participation in the two exciting projects that were announced at the Melava Malka. In a unique and warm display of appreciation for our beloved Rav and Rebbetzin, who have given so much to our Kehilla over the past quarter century, our Mispallelim have launched a joint effort for a Ksivas Sefer Torah for the Rav and a Siyum Hashas project. IY"H, we hope to have the Hachnosas Sefer Torah and Siyum prior to next Rosh Hashanah (Sept. 2007).

The following is an update with pertinent contact information and project details:

1. Ksivas Sefer Torah:

B"H, the initial response has been overwhelming and many Parshiyos have already been pledged. A Sofer has been retained and the writing has begun.

At this time, a select number of Parshas ($1,000) and Special Parshas ($500) remain open. There are also dedication opportunities available for Perakim ($180), Pesukim ($100), Words ($36) and Letters ($18).

For further information, please contact Shragie Aranoff (516-817-2760 or shragie@att.net) or Shmuel Kazarnovsky (917-468-0944 or skaz@renltc.com).

Check may be made payable to the Shul ("Cong. Ohel Yitzchok") and left with the Rav or the Gabbaim. Please note on the check "Sefer Torah Project."

2. Siyum Hashas:

We are planning to complete the entire Talmud Bavli and, IY"H, make a Siyum Hashas concurrent with the Hachnosas Sefer Torah. For convenience sake, we are dividing Shas by Artscroll's 73 volumes, each containing approximately 40 blatt. This works out to learning just over one Blatt per week, hopefully not too arduous a commitment. To see which volumes have already been reserved go to http://mysite.verizon.net/jfaska/shul/siyum.pdf

For further information or to reserve a volume/mesechta, please contact Joey Faska (718-261-7391 or jfaska@yahoo.com) or Ephraim Berger (718-263-2138 or ephberger@aol.com).

We hope you will join our Kehilla in both of these ambitious projects, and we welcome your input and suggestions.

Emergency Rally Outside UN Headquarters

A MESSAGE FROM AGUDATH ISRAEL OF AMERICA

The scheduled visit to New York of the Iranian President – a man who has described the Holocaust as “a myth” and called for Israel to be “wiped off the map,” a man who pursues destructive nuclear capacity in defiance of the entire world community, a man who sponsors terror and mayhem in the Middle East and beyond – should fill every civilized heart with revulsion.

And it should fill every Jewish heart with something more.

The arrival of this would-be heir to Hitler should remind all Jews how little has truly changed since millions of Jews were last targeted for destruction, r”l. And it should remind us, no less, of the uniquely vulnerable position of Yisroel bein ho’amim, Jewry among the nations, and of the fact that ein lonu al mi lehishoein ela al Avinu She’baShomayim – We can depend on no one but Our Father in Heaven.

Therefore, at this critical time, and during this season of introspection and repentance, we call upon all Jews to return to our sacred heritage, with tefillah and renewed allegiance to Torah, our eternal wellspring of life, the source of our strength to withstand all our enemies.

Along with our supplications, we feel it is our duty as well to express to the world our deep anguish over the presence in our midst of a vicious ruler who threatens genocide against Jews.

A number of Jewish groups are planning to gather outside the United Nations headquarters, at

Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza (2nd Avenue and 47th Street in Manhattan)
on Wednesday 27 Elul / September 20 at 12:00 noon

to present a collective Jewish expression of outrage at the General Assembly’s hosting of the Iranian leader, of support for Israel’s security and soldiers, and of solidarity in the fight against the global scourge of terrorism.

Whatever differences may separate us from some of those groups, we stand united here with all Jews.

Therefore, after consultation with the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah and following the precedent of the previous generation’s Gedolim in similar circumstances, we urge all who are able to do so to participate in the planned gathering. We have been assured that a special section will be made available for men and women to gather in separate areas, and we will lift our voices in tefillah to Hashem, secure in the knowledge that Bechol dor vodor omdim aleinu lechaloseinu veHakodosh Boruch Hu matzileinu miyodom. In every generation, there are those who stand against us to annihilate us, but Hashem saves us from their hand.

Additional details will be forthcoming.

Ask the Red Cross to check on Kidnapped Israeli soldiers!

This is quick and easy and VERY important to do.
Why could the Red Cross be denying Israeli soldiers that which they routinely do for every country?

Please join over 1200 individuals imploring the Red Cross to act now.

Go to: www.petitiononline.com/habanim3 http://www.petitiononline.com/habanim3

The families have not heard from the 3 abducted soldiers since their capture. The petition is directed to the Int.l Committee of the Red Cross, the organization responsible for implementing the Geneva Convention which states that every prisoner of war has the right to contact their family.

This is a parent's worst nightmare. Let's do what we can to keep the pressure up and help the families of Gilad Schalit, Ehud Goldwasser and Eldad Regev.

on the topic of "The Haggadah"

Chickens for Shabbos (Oif L'Shabbos) is a tzedakah under the auspices of Rabbi Fabian Schonfeld, Mara D'Asra of the Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills and Rabbi Doniel Lander, Rosh Hayeshiva of Yeshivas Ohr Hachaim.

Chickens for Shabbos (Of L'Shabbos) is an organization that helps alleviate the terrible financial woes of so many families in the poverty-stricken communities of Israel whose economic distress is difficult to describe. In America, two of the most active participants in this truly great effort and, indeed, the driving force behind it are Rabbi Fabian Schonfeld Sh'lita, Rabbi of Young Israel of Kew Gardens Hills, and Mr. Robert Neuman t"yhka. In Israel the main activists are two young wonderful men by the name of Shlomo Zalman Ellinson from England and Chaim Puretz from Flatbush, both studying at the Yeshiva in Brisk. Sometime ago they became aware of the terrible plight of hundreds of families living in Yerushalayim who literally find it impossible to put food on the table. Some of these unfortunate families have a large number of children and grandchildren whose average Shabbos meals consist of tuna fish and cottage cheese.

Please note that not a single individual is being compensated nor does anyone drive any personal gain from this great Pikuach Nefesh activity. Every penny that you contribute literally puts food on a family's table. If you wish to help with this tremendous effort you may mail your tax deductible check to:
